Having Fun and Keeping FIT while generating Income for Charity.

Drs Ann Parr and Penny Cook took part in treking to raise funds

 

The repeat performance in the year 2010-2011 for charity/keeping fit
and having fun IDEA was as productive as before. taking part are
Mrs Elaine Tyrrell far left, Dr Penny cook,Dr Parr and Mrs Louise Layland raised
Around £150/- in joint sponsership

 
They have done it again Dr Ann Parr and Dr Penny Cook
Have been starr trecking again and raised around £300/- for the Hospice
on the 11th of June 2011

ThisYear The SI Wigan Club Celebrated it's 70th Birthday at

The Annual Dinner and HENCE the Function with change of Insignia, was specially Significant
The evening was held at Haigh Hall  on the 6th May 2011,Guests at the Dinner were The Mayor of Wigan Cllr Winstanley, Regional SI President Jenni Stanistreet, Rotary President Collin Wilkinson, & Presidents of neighbouring Soroptimist Clubs.

The Speaker for the night was Rt Hon. Lisa Nandy Member of Parliament for Wigan

 


The Annual Dinner was attended by the Friendship link Club of SI Castlebar.

As a gesture of friendship SI Wigan Club Members visit their Friendship Links in other countries - This Year SI Castlebar Visited Wigan at the Annual Dinner. They were hosted and entertained by the Members of SI Wigan

Local Charities
Local Projects such as Sleeping Bags and Shoe boxes for the Homeless Has been an annual effort by the SI Wigan Club in helping the Local community.
DIAS - Local Drop in and Share centre, which supports Women and Children who suffer the consequences of Domestic Violence are helped by Donations from the SI Wigan Charity Funds and Service- Two of the Soroptimists are trusties of this Group

The Club works for the Community in other ways such as working with
local PCT to create awareness of conditions such as Osteoporosis.
Last year the Club raised £12000?- for this Project. A Specialist Nurse has been appointed to work with community, schools and other organisations to give children and women a better health
This year Members of SI Wigan and staff working for this project held a workshop at the Slavery Museum Liverpool and shared the awareness and information with other Soroptimist Clubs in South Lancashire

 

The organisers of the service have designed a competition for a poster to build strong Bones. Atracting the imagination of the targeted community to combat the condition before it strikes

Charity Ball 2011

SI Wigan's ninth Chairtiy Ball was held in February this year.
Over the years this has been an annual event for the club -

over £50,000 has been raised for Charitable causes.

The Picture below is that of Mr Allan & his staff-the Jewellers from 25 Makinson arcade in WIgan. Mr Allan donated a 18ct white Gold Chain and a Diamond pendant for Auction which fetched over £1100/- at the Ball in 2010.

Similarly he donated a Gold/ pearl Necklace and Earings for Auction at the Charity Ball (2011)

The Profit made at this event (after expences) was over £5000/- which swelled the Charity funds, for the coming year.

Thanks to the Public & Local Businesses Like Debenhams,Barbaras of Standish, Blakeleys Waste Management, Chadwicks, Fairhurst Accountants, Style and comfort,Douglas Printers, and many More in making this a successful Project.

Miss Kate Fussell has been an active member of Soroptimist International for the past 40 yrs She was the Regional President and later the Federation President, In appreciation she was given a certificate  by the Federation, Bouquet of flowers and a gift by the Wigan Club the Picture on the right shows President Carole presenting these to her at the Annual Dinner on May 6th 2011

                                                          

 Soroptimists having fun at the Beechs ( Standish)-- Ladies from the Lancome Cosmetics demomonstrated their ware and held a raffle. The Picture on the right shows Past President Bridget Collier winning £500/ worth of goodies on the evening. Lancome have also given a Raffle Prize for the Annual Ball at the DW stadium

'Sparks' is the childrens medicl research charity - and is involved in funding research into
a range of conditions affecting babies,children and mums-to-be.Part of spark's research into
Pre-eclampsia is currently being carried out ar St.Mary's Hospital in Manchester. and PP Carole
