JUST SOME OF THE PROJECTS
WITH WHICH OUR CLUB
IS INVOLVED

 

Soroptimist International is a mainly 'Service' organisation and honouring that commitment the Wigan Club is heavily involved with the Local Community and organisations serving the population of Wigan.

At the Local Level

  • DIAS - two members are trustees on the Board of this domestic violence organisation
  • Members go into a primary school to listen to children read.
  • Star traking is organised to collect funds for the Local Hospice
  • Members volunteer at the Hospice, to man the Telephones and other duties
  • Members also help collecting funds by taking part in Bag packing and Gift wrapping at local Departmental stores such as Debenhams and at Sainsbury's




 

  •  Save our Skeletons : is the Local project started by SI Wigan to promote awareness of Osteoporosis in the schools and the community at large. this is being done with the help of the Local PCT. The Club had raised over £11000/-for this project

     

     

     

     

At Club Level

We hold Cofee Mornings and Bring and Buy sales to support Mcmillan Nurses

SI members work with Brownies and the Girlguides to promote Osteoporosis awareness and boost the Link between SI and Girlguides

Joint Projects are promoted to enhance Friendship and provide service such as Helping Children affected by the Chernobil Disaster-This is Joint Project with SI Stratford on Avon

Yearly St Valentine day Ball

In the last few years the collection from the Ball has been £50000 at least

Ball raises funds for

  • local charities including the Hospice .

     

  • International charities

  • National charities

     

     

     

 

 

 

Charitable Acts by all Members
for the local community

Each year during the Festive Season the Club members fill Shoe Boxes with goodies to destribute amongst the Homeless locally 

Club members also collect funds,and provide household goods for helping the Homeless in the community. Funds are provided for sleepingbags for the homeless --this is done in collaboration with the Local Rotary Club

 

Tinned Food is destributed to the Homeless through the Bricklayers.

 

 

 

 

At Federation Level
Working alongside UNICEF we are trying to combat violence against women and the trafficking of women and children
